Description

The Munro Academy Early Learning Centre (MAELC) is a fully licensed Christian early learning centre serving Northside families through providing high quality, family centred day care services for infants, toddlers and preschools.

Summary

The MAELC Director integrates compassionate professionalism and visionary leadership in leading a committed team of Early Childhood Educators and related staff. The Director is responsible to the Munro Academy Head of School; is supported by an active MAELC committee; is hired by the Head of School and Board; and works closely with Department of Education and Early Childhood Development representatives. 

Responsibilities

Administration: 
  • Creatively facilitate providing quality education and ensuring sustainable/profitable functioning of the MAELC 
  • Provide oversight (working closely with the Munro Administrative Assistant) for financial 
    management of the centre, including income and expenses, payroll, records, bills, parent fees, grants, donations, and subsidies. 
  • Work closely with DEECD liaisons & funding structures to understand and maximize evolving funding arrangements, including diligent application for and oversight of grant and salary subsidy monies 
  • Ensure completion of ongoing licensing requirements 
  • Work with Head of School to develop and execute annual board approved budget 
  • Lead regular MAELC leadership committee meetings 
  • Provide regular reports to the Munro Board 
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Head of School 

MAELC Activities 
  • Support MAELC Educators in teaching appropriate behaviours and skills through modelling, guiding, observing, demonstrating and reinforcing positive behaviour 
  • Oversee and approve purchase of supplies and equipment as needed within approved 
    budget  
  • Work with school administration to ensure comprehensive insurance coverage for MAELC 
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate attendance records, children’s and staff’s confidential records 
  • Monitor availability of child care spaces and waiting list, and admissions in consultation with the Assistant Director, maintaining the maximum enrolment of children 
  • Post all required and relevant information for parents, staff, and visitors 
  • Maintain an appropriate updated inventory records of supplies and equipment 
  • Receive, respond and distribute MAELC correspondence as needed 

Staff Relations: 
  • Deliberately cultivate a caring and healthy team environment with ECE educators and staff, through which staff model relationships characterized by professionality and the Christian ethic of love 
  • Ensure sufficient staffing at all times while maintaining appropriately efficient ratios 
  • Maintain current substitute list 
  • Keep staff updated on policies, procedures, changes, admissions, current field research and ideas through regular staff meetings and communication 
  • Provide staff support and care in keeping with Munro’s Christian commitment 
  • In conjunction with the MAELC Committee, provide leadership for interviewing, hiring, disciplining, dismissal, and orientations of staff. 
  • Provide oversight of teaching staff in completing required programming activities 
  • Plan and execute professional development workshops as per DEECCD requirements for staff with the goal of improving quality of care 
  • Cultivate healthy communication between staff and parents 
  • Support and supervise staff and ensure staff follow duties set by the job descriptions 
  • Provide timely ongoing organic feedback to staff and regular (annual) evaluations as an important part of the regular contract update process 
  • Facilitate student teaching programs in cooperation with local educational institutions 
  • In conjunction with the MAELC Committee and Head of School, the Director further develops layers of leadership within the MAELC - including the formulation and engagement of Assistant Director, as needed to facilitate quality educational delivery. 

Community Transformation 
  • Engage in the execution of the major MAELC expansion initiative, including support of the committee leading the renovation process and leadership of the build out of related enrolment and staff increases 
  • Develop and strengthen cutting edge family engagement approaches which allow MAELC to go beyond care of children to supporting parents and families 
    • Proactively seek and engage with partner community organizations to further this process 
    • Develop capacity of MAELC educators and staff to engage effectively in this family centred approach 
  • Serve as the ‘face of the MAELC’ with the community, including community groups and churches/parishes 

Parent-MAELC Relationships
  • Interview potential clients and register children 
  • Engage constructively with parent complaints/concerns/comments 
  • Provide parents with information on program activities and changes 
  • Facilitate regular (biannual) parent meetings 
  • Support regular and constructive communication between MAELC educators and parents regarding individual student progress and group activities, including HiMama, website, phone calls, in person connections and printed materials 
  • Update MAELC Handbook and publicity materials in consultation with MAELC committee and Head of School 

Health and Safety
  • Ensure delivery of medical procedures and medications as required 
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment and ensure compliance with all related protocol; work with the Head of School to ensure MAELC’s compliance with fire, safety and health regulations 

Program
  • Support the provision of high quality, Christian worldview incorporated and developmentally appropriate programming in accordance with organizational and legal guidelines 
  • Further develop and support teachers in implementing age appropriate Christian world view content 
  • Assist in annual program reviews and recommendations in consultation with the Board and Program Committee 
  • Assume teacher responsibilities for brief periods of time when necessary 
  • Ensure that progress reports on children are completed as required for compliance, and 
    distributed to parents 
  • Keep up-to-date on issues relating to program design and delivery 
  • Complete menu planning in consultation with the cook and public health nutritionist/staffing 

Qualifications 

the ideal candidate will demonstrate: 
  • Commitment to developing and providing caring, high quality Christian ECE services 
  • Early Childhood Education training; ECE Classification Level 2 or 3 
  • Appropriate ministry training and/or experience is an asset 
  • Submission of current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, criminal record check and child abuse registry check 
  • Active involvement in local church/parish 
  • Commitment to work effectively within Munro Academy’s statement of faith and community vision as outlined in Munro Academy Student/Parent Handbook (day school)
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with staff and families from diverse worldviews from a clear and compassionate Christian perspective 
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills 
  • Proven ability to work closely with other team members 
  • Appropriate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job 

Compensation

  • Salary range: $51,952 to $60,884 gross annual (built on provincially approved hourly wage rates) based on years of experience and certification level (2 or 3); paid over 12 months. Munro Academy makes standard salary deductions as per CRA guidelines.
