Description

Munro Academy is a growing private Christian International Baccalaureate World School offering positively life-changing Christian education from Pre-Primary to Grade 12.

Summary
Starting in September of 2026, the Music/Band Teacher integrates passion and compassion as they deliberately build fledgling music and band programming across both Elementary and MS/HS campuses through in-school classes and extracurricular band and chorus opportunities. Additional class content will be taught at the mutual agreement of this teacher and the administration.  As part of a vibrant teaching team, the Music/Band Teacher is responsible to the Elementary and MS/HS Principals and is hired by the Administration and Board.  

Responsibilities:
  • Preparing and teaching a variety of Elementary, MS, and HS  courses in Music, Choir, and Band (plus additional courses which will be mutually agreed upon based on teachables and scheduling needs) based on Nova Scotia outcomes.
  • Insightfully growing Munro’s music programming with the goal of providing students with robust pathways to grow in love and expertise in making and relishing music.
  • Applying and improving existing syllabi and other appropriate preparations as needed for quality educational delivery.
  • Cultivating healthy and constructive teacher-student relationships with a focus on character development and supportive care for students.
  • Constructively assessing student work; entering assignments/grades in ClassDojo, Google Classroom, and grades in the MySchool online system.
  • Facilitating ongoing communication with parents as needed (including regular parent-teacher conferences, follow-up by email, phone, meeting with parents, etc.).
  • Participating in school community life including daily staff devotional meetings, individual and team betterment meetings, Collective Teacher Efficacy meetings, professional development training, and extracurricular/volunteer opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining a winsome classroom environment that is appropriate to the subject being taught.
  • Taking part in regular assessment with a commitment to ongoing growth in educational delivery.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Commitment to providing positively life-changing education for Cape Breton students through integrating the Bible and the person of Jesus into quality education.
  • Bachelor’s degree required;  B.Ed. and/or appropriate theological training, plus previous teaching experience (ideal); appropriate teachables and/or experience in music (particularly band and/or chorus); additional teachables/experience will be an asset.
  • Passion for and demonstrated experience in education.
  • Demonstrated positive classroom management abilities for this age-group.
  • Active involvement in local church/parish.
  • Ability to contribute to unity in Christ’s body in teaching as a member of staff, representing the breadth and wealth of Cape Breton’s denominations.
  • Commitment to Munro Academy’s community vision as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook.
  • Successful completion of required criminal/abuse registry checks.

Compensation
  • Making a formative difference in the lives of Cape Breton students at this pivotal age!
  • Salary range: $38,321 to $47,649 gross annual salary based on experience and education levels, paid over 12 months. Munro Academy makes standard salary deductions in accordance with CRA guidelines.
  • Health/life, etc., benefits package available for 50% FTE+ (50/50 copay).
  • Up to $1,000/year for post-bachelor’s degree continuing education (approved by principal)
  • $600/year retirement plan prorated based on FTE.
  • Usage of a school-owned laptop.
